Marlow Town Councillors back Greenbelt destruction

25 Sep 2023

Marlow Town Council has backed a proposed studio development that would destroy an area of  Greenbelt and Country Park in a 90 acre plot between Marlow and Bourne End.
The decision was made in controversial circumstances after a private, "members only" meeting of councillors in which no official minutes were taken. Instead of an official communication of the decision, one councillor, former mayor Richard Scott, submitted a personal representation claiming it was the Town Council's view.
Anna Crabtree, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate, said, " The way the councillors have behaved is outrageous. You can't make council policy in a backroom, members-only meeting. Decisions should be made publicly in forums where residents can witness them and question their representations."
Irrespective of your view on the proposed development, we should all be concerned about the conduct of our councillors. Important decisions like this should be made in the full glare of public scrutiny.
That is why the Liberal Democrats are calling on Marlow Town Council to hold a public meeting to listen to residents' views and then make an informed public decision.
