    We are a year into the pandemic and it is really important to pay tribute to the staff in our schools here in the south of Buckinghamshire. Those with whom I have had contact are immensely brave, because they know that schools have not been as safe as the Prime Minister claims. I am very proud of the school community with which I am associated. In my professional life, I have never seen such dedication, or good humour in the face of exhaustion, with so many going so far above and beyond expectation for our children. I find their ability to pack away their own anxiety very moving. The staff rarely show any signs of the massive stress they are under. They cannot stay home safe from the virus.

    Buckinghamshire Council is meant to be representative of our local area, but out of 194 Councillors only 46 are women. This is less than one quarter of all serving councillors.

    As Liberal Democrats, we agree that a gender balanced Council would be more representative and better for all. Studies have shown that women are half as likely than men to consider themselves potential candidates for elected office and that they need to be asked three times before they will consider standing.

    Buckinghamshire Lib Dems have launched a 'shop local' campaign encouraging people to protect businesses and save local jobs by buying from local shops and suppliers whenever possible.

    Marlow Lib Dem campaigner Anna Crabtree said: "Local businesses that so many of us rely on are at serious risk after months of lockdown, threatening jobs and the local economy."

    Local Liberal Democrats have condemned plans by the Government to take away the rights of residents to have a say on new housing developments.

    The changes mean developers could go ahead with new housing schemes, without providing extra facilities and services - or local people getting the chance to object.
